Summary
Hicks Lodge, in the heart of the National Forest is a great place to walk and cycle whether you are an experienced mountain-biker or still have stabilisers. This former coal mining site has been totally transformed with planting and a variety of trails so that the whole family can walk or cycle through the beautiful young woodland. Each trail is graded so you can choose flat and easy paths, great if you have smaller children, or go for more challenging tracks which are perfect for mountain bikes. Trail maps cover all the walking and cycling trails on the site with details of facilities and rest stops.
The eco-friendly centre, which was developed through a partnership between the National Forest and Forestry England, is a great place to warm up and refuel after your adventures, with cafe, bike hire and repair shop, showers and a wood-burning stove for chilly days.
