Summary
There are a number of woodlands, locally and nationally, named in honour of the long-serving reign of Queen Elizabeth II. The 19-hectare Jubilee Wood, near Nanpantan, owned by Leicestershire County Council, was dedicated in 1977 to mark the monarch’s Silver Jubilee.
The wood, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, consists of a mixture of mature beech, sycamore and larch, with an area of damp alder wood near its northern boundary. There are some granite outcrops within the wood and open public access throughout. Both this wood and the adjacent Outwoods, managed by Charnwood Borough Council, are renowned for their seasonal carpets of bluebells.
